Wild Strawberry Spring set

This trivet and coaster set is made from felted wool and yarn, created by my mother Ulla Sandberg in her studio by the Wermlandish woodland edge. The wool has been combed and dyed with foraged plants and natural dye, by my mother and I.

The wool comes from our neighbour's beautiful Helsinge sheep, a Scandinavian primitive breed of short-tailed sheep with a coat called 'ryaull' in Swedish. Primitive breeds like these possess a considerable genetic variation between it's members, so each sheep's wool varies in their quality, colour and texture, due to the minimal human input when it comes to the breed's characteristics.
